Finding your Family

Aboriginal Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) is a world-renowned research, collections and publishing organisation.

As the result of past government policies, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families live with the hope, of being reunited with important cultural, spiritual and family ties.

Finding your family can be daunting and difficult, especially knowing where to start.  AIATSIS have compiled comprehensive contact information by state (please see links below) for the key organisations that hold, or can help you to find Indigenous family history records and information.

Choose a state

Each information sheet lists a range of organisations and describes the records or information relevant to Indigenous family history research and provides contact information and links to family history web resources and guides.
